Here are some images of my installation at the newly-named Malinda Jolley Mortin Gallery (former Clayton Gallery) as part of the grand opening of the Zuckerman Museum of Art at Kennesaw State University. They were taken with my phone; I will be getting professional images taken soon, and hopefully using them to update my sad, neglected website.

Earth Helix

So, I got my beltline project up, and am quite pleased if I do say so myself. I installed the main structure, then was holding out on adding the skin until a break in the weather. Well, a real break never came, so on the first real day of sunshine I finished the first stage. (I finished the day before the "opening" of this years Art on the Beltline events)

1st stage completed - Sept 7, 2012

I let the solar panels charge for almost a week before installing the lights so they would be nice and strong. You could see them shine through the thick paper (its pretty subtle.)

Sept 7, 2012. About 10:00pm.

Like I alluded to above, the weather was not very cooperative, and the day after I finished, the "aging" process started. It moved a bit quicker than I expected, but I still like how the materials changed.

Sept 8, 2012 about 4:30pm. In the morning, the piece was still totally intact, but a midday storm rolled through around 3pm.

Sept 8, 2012. Around 9:00pm

I think they tried to "save" my piece. Last time I checked, it looked like someone tried to "help me". It looks like someone gathered all the blown off paper. The paper is embedded with wildflower seeds, so although it looked like trash, it had the chance of populating the area with plant life. That's the thing I really like about public work though, when it's out of my hands, others (and nature) may do what they see fit.

Proposal Images for the Atlanta Beltline

Here are the mock-up images images for my Art on the Belt Line proposal. The Work will be called "Earth Helix"

Twisting, four-sided "helix", steel frame with seed-paper skin

Solar lights inside the form come on at night

As the biodegradable paper breaks down, the light begins to shine through

Structure during the day, after a while of the paper degrading, beginning to look bare

"Skeletal" framework being lit at night by the solar lights

Hopefully, the following spring, the wildflower seeds (that were imbedded in the seed-paper skin) germinate and grow a flower field

Future Ghosts

So I finally finished building my new sculpture, and have installed it in downtown Columbus, GA. Here are some preliminary pics. I will take some better ones for the website whenever I get around to it.
